Grandma’s Memories
A beautiful poignant poem which conjures up memories from times gone by …
Grandma’s Memories
Grandma made this patchwork quilt
From different materials, so long ago.
Each square is a piece of history
With memories on every row.
She passed it on to Mother
Who will pass it on to me.
I know where every piece came from
As Mum’s had it since she was three.
There is a piece of lovely fabric
From Mum’s ballroom gown
she said she was belle of the ball
At the city hall, down town.
A fuzzy pink square is there
That was Mum’s favourite toy
A beautiful big teddy bear
Who was her pride and joy.
There are some old baby dresses
Both from Mummy and me
Hand sewn neatly into place
For everyone to see.
A piece of dark blue silk
It’s granddad’s dressing gown.
Plus a piece of grandma’s curtains
From her first house in the town.
It is a very special quilt
So many memories are there.
So when it is passed down to me
These memories I can share.
