Christmas Past

Christmas Past

I’m once again reminiscing of the Christmases of the past
When I was just a young child living in Belfast
Cherished traditions looked forward to every year
With great excitement as the season once again drew near

Donning gay apparel and all the family
Going downtown to the city centre to see the decorated Christmas tree
Admiring the shop window displays of winter wonderlands
Visiting Santa’s grotto holding the gift he gave me tightly in my hands

Putting up our decorations and the Christmas tree
Helping with the festive baking taste testing their quality
Hanging up the stockings wearing new pjs on Christmas Eve
Tucked in bed early thinking of the gifts I might receive

I’ve replicated such traditions or a variation thereof
Remembering the greatest gift is our family together all wrapped up in love
