Always was, and always will be

Always was, and always will be

He lives on, in immortality, comes to you, in dreams at night,
Takes you far, from your reality, puts your dreads and fears to flight,
Songs he sang, will make your heart soar, all his words, you too will sing,
Simply was, and always will be. ‘Love me tender’ – Love, ‘The King!’

None could match, the look he gave you, or the style that was his own,
Hearts would melt, at this adonis. ‘Blue suede shoes’. Was his renown,
Nations stood, for his attention, adoration, his command.
‘G.I. Blues’, was his contention, in cinemas throughout the land.

Eyes would weep, when ‘Old Shep’ hit you. ‘Are you lonesome?’ made you cry,
But ‘King Creole’, ‘Hard Headed Woman’ and ‘Jailhouse Rock’ would lift you high,
Jumping, jiving, weeping softly, such variation, to his style,
Teenagers then, would just adore him, mothers too, would dance and smile.

Such a talent, gone too early, gone to sing to God above,
Left us crying, ‘In the chapel’, ‘Return To Sender’, with our love,
They named him ‘Elvis’, plain and simple, just a boy, who loved to sing,
Always was, and always will be, ‘Love Me Tender’, love ‘The King!’

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
