Emptied
A poignant and sentimental poem about the feelings when sifting through belongings of a loved one.
Emptied
A blue velvet dress that went out with the ark
Red knitted hats that were worn to the park
Two dozen socks and a brown furry stole
A pair of black leggings that frayed to a hole
Two yellowed tickets for a concert in town
Kept as a memento of Roy Chubby Brown
A box of odd earings and a broken gold watch
A cultured pearl necklace with a real silver catch
Assorted laceĀ undiesĀ that no longer fit
Long cotton bloomers and an old oven mit
Two scented candles, Somme matches, a dart
The words your my darling in a red glitter heart
A worn leather collar from a favourite dead cat
Theses old wooden draws full of memories and tat
Being emptied of things from the lows and the highs
And the smell of my mother that brings tears to my eyes
