Ella Beach
Ella Beach
Ella Beach is spectacular covered with large rocks and driftwood pummelled by the tide
The only access is down a narrow winding path with high chain link fencing on either side
Located in Sooke BC skirting a sheltered cove
Considered by the locals as a gem in their scenic treasure trove
A young mother with three children immediately asked us if we had seen ‘the bear’
It’d been foraging around the car park earlier yet we saw no evidence there
Despite the awesome seascape and unique beach we had came to see
Returning to our vehicles suddenly became a priority
My flight or fight response kicked in at the mention of a bear
I had walked unwittingly into my worst imaginable nightmare
We quickly decided to escort the young family up the access path
Adrenalin fuelled I led the way using a driftwood stick as my sturdy staff
After turning the first corner I saw there was yet another
Around which I was extremely fearful what I would discover
Make a noise a voice whispered inside my head
As I took each step with a definite sense of dread
I pressed my car key fob to sound off the alarm
Bound to scare off anything that would bring us harm
We reached our cars in safety with not a bear in sight
Triumphant in the face of perceived danger much to our delight
We were again reminded we are mere visitors in the bruins home
A supernatural sea to sky habitat where they are free to roam
