Three pussycats

For years I’ve followed England
with three Lions on my shirt,
it hasn’t been too easy
it’s so painful that it hurts.

They’ll start off really sprightly
and fill us full of hope,
then screw it up completely
once on the slippery slope.

If it comes down to penalties
I cannot bear to look,
you just know that they will lose it
it’s never by the book.

And all those dreadful moments
like when Beckham was sent off,
and Gasgoine started crying
no wonder others scoff.

It brings out all the hooligans,
the idiots and the louts,
who make us all look stupid
when we have been knocked out.

And now we’ve lost to Iceland
I cannot bear the shame,
you’d think they played for peanuts
not the richest in the game.

So I will stick to rugby
at least the men are men,
until it is the world cup
and we’ll go through it all again.
