To : My Dad – For Father’s Day

This is a special poetic tribute written by a son to his father who is no longer here …

To: My Dad – For Father’s Day

“Hello my Dad, how are you ?”
That’s what I will say,
When I pop in to see him,
This coming Father’s Day.

“Are you still bowling spinners?
And knocking them about,
And is the ball still hard and shiny,
Do you still shout “Out”?

“Are you and Mom together,
Still walking down the lane,
Holding hands as you always did,
Free now, from the pain ?”

“Do you still sing “Kathleen”,
To the Daughter, who went so young,
And is she there beside you now,
Joining in the song?”

“Will you say hello to Floss for me,
And Ben, and Gem as well,
Tell them that I love them still,
As on this earth I dwell ?”

“Will you tend to all the ponies,
As you did when at the mine,
And also, naughty Annabelle
Who played up, – every time? “.

There are many, many questions,
And other things I say,
When I spend a moment close to Dad,
Every Father’s Day.

But all too soon, I have to go,
I say a silent prayer,
We always say, “Goodnight, God Bless!”
As I turn, and leave him there.

“Goodnight God Bless Dad, love you. Give Mom and Kathleen a kiss from me!”

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
