Can I?

Can I?

Can I climb on your bed, can I rest my head on your pillow,
Can I stay for a while, I will just be as still as a willow,
Can I snuggle down deep, and drop gently to sleep, will you let me?
Can I stretch out in comfort and ask that the night will forget me ?

Will you please let me stay, please don’t send me away, I’m so lonely,
Will you keep me with you, whatever you do, I’m yours only,
Will you look out for me, let me sit on your knee, when I want to,
Will you light me a fire just to warm my desire all the way through?

Shall you love me forever and promise that never you’ll leave me,
Shall you always be true, just as I am to you, just believe me,
Shall you cover my head, in your warm snuggly bed, – and just so I am not forgotten,
Shall you just keep my dish full of biscuits, – so that I know I am completely spoiled rotten?

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
