To ‘Our Bess’
To ‘Our Bess’
When we met in long years past,
Such a beautiful friend,
Who came to build a love to last,
Beyond the very end.
‘Our Bess!’ You were, – and we were close,
Wherever we went, – you came,
With your shining eyes, and a big wet nose,
You smiled when we called your name.
When you were younger, we would walk,
In forests, and on hills,
And we always said that you could talk,
When you went to, ‘Nanny Gills’.
“How many biscuits Bess?”. We’d ask,
“One, two, three, or four?”.
To us, that was an easy task,
You would always bark for more.
By the fireside you would lie at night,
Just dozing at our feet,
And you would look at us, with eyes so bright,
And all our hearts would meet.
We spent many, many happy seasons,
Just running, playing, falling,
And we understood, we knew the reasons,
Why another life was calling.
We knew we had to let you go,
We saw it was your time,
To travel to another world,
To another life, – to shine!.
Now as you walk through heaven’s gate,
By the feet of the Lord, no less,
We are so proud, that on this earth,
You were our pal. – ‘Our Bess!’.
Never forgotten, – “Goodnight God Bless. (Good girl xx)”
