Three promises

Three promises

The first is my life that I give you,
To keep with you here for all time,
To hold and to always be with you,
And to know you will always be mine.

The next is my love that is handed,
Surrounded, protected by life,
And covered in gold that is banded,
To signify you are my wife.

The last is my heart that beats for you,
Two lovers, one heartbeat, as one,
With my love and my life that surround you,
Then I know that my heart will go on!

These are the pledges I give you,
Hold them, and let them stay strong,
Remember in all that life brings you,
‘Everthine’, ‘Evermine’, – ‘Everlong!

I love you.

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
