Next!!

Here’s a poem for everyone who’s spent a few hours of their life in a doctor’s waiting room …

NEXT !!

I went down to the doctors, sat in a waiting chair,
Crossed my legs and settled down, how long would I be there?
The room was very crowded, people coughing all around,
So I fished around my pockets, sucked a lozenge that I found.

Picked up a glossy magazine, started flicking through the pages,
May well find something interesting, I might be here for ages,
I started reading an article, about symptoms of diseases,
It was heavy stuff, not just about, simple coughs and sneezes.

I glanced at those around me, tried not to catch their eye,
According to the article, we were all about to die.
I looked up at the notice board, hanging on the wall,
Have you had THIS or THAT, it said, do you feel ill at all?

Well, when I’d walked in through the door, I hadn’t felt THAT bad,
And the thought of seeing the doctor, hadn’t made me feel too sad.
But having read the article, and seen pamphlets on the wall,
I wasn’t sure I’d last too long, or make it home at all!

When at last my name was called, I staggered from my seat,
Approached the door with DOCTOR on, with lead in both my feet.
Sit down, sit down, the doctor said, now what seems to be the trouble,
Well… I’m getting a pain around my waist, each time that I bend double.

I’ve looked it up on the internet and I don’t like what I’ve found,
According to all my symptoms, I’ll soon be in the ground!
So the doctor checked me over, bent me down then up again,
Prodded me around my waist, to try and find the pain.

Mmm and Ah, the doctor said, then listened to my chest,
Then sat down and chuckled, as I put back on my vest.
Well I know just what your problem is, the internets not right,
The plain and simple fact is, YOU WEAR YOUR BELT TOO TIGHT!,

I apologised profusely and sailed out of the room,
Danced along the corridor, free from care and gloom.
Rushed straight on through reception, past all the worried faces,
Then straight down to the shopping mall, to buy a pair of BRACES.

Not a lot to tell...just an ordinary man...always loved writing but never had the time until now...hope I've got a few years left to write about the million things I would like to get down on paper be it in poetry form or just plain old story telling. Just in case anyone would like me to come along to their group and read a few of my poems live..I would be happy to do so within the confines of Kent or Sussex...I would just need to cover my time and petrol costs...plus a cup of tea and a biscuit. Just email [email protected] To answer some of your questions= ex-army..ex -jackeroo...ex-builder..ex-quite a few other things..still rocking...married...2 + 3 children...7 grandchildren...retired...love custard creams. I have now published my first collection of poems which are now available on Amazon under the title of..LAST APPLE ON THE TREE. The book consists of twenty seven poems covering a wide range of topics and emotions. My second book has just been published and is called A BREEZE IN THE WILLOWS, also available on Amazon. I hope that everyone will get as much enjoyment reading them, as I did writing them.
