Christmas Windows

This poem reflects back to a time in the past, just before Christmas

Christmas Windows

When I was a young girl my nanny called to me
I’d like you to go a message before you have your tea
Run across to the chemists and hand him this wee note
I put on my jacket and watched her as she wrote
It was almost five and getting dark my favourite time of night
When everyone was rushing  home and shop windows shone so bright
Displaying all their Christmas wares amongst a Yuletide scene
Inviting customers to step inside and enjoy the festive theme
My favourite was the chemists window and the vast array
Of tinsel fairy lights and cotton snow
With Santa on his sleigh
To showcase beautiful gift sets of perfume talc and soap
Bath salts in jars and packs of cubes some tied with flaxen rope
Attractive accessories and cosmetics completed the display
A sight that lingers fondly in my memory today
I thanked him for the package requested by my nan
Hastened home to enjoy my tea and toast with home made jam
