A Limited View

 This thought provoking was written  by Elsa J Beattie … hope you enjoy it!

A limited view

Formed from a tree so tall

Which once surveyed all manner of life

Your view then limited to one small room.

Sparsely dressed

Family gathered round

The substance of life to partake.

Resplendently adorned

Special guests

Demanded you look your best.

On your leaves

Hot iron pressed;

Bread made to feed hungry mouths.

Around you

Babies learned to walk

Supported by your strength.

Underneath you

A hiding place, a den,

A shelter.

Upon you

Games played;

Birthday and christmas gifts.

Worried frowns reflected in polished wood

Ration books and homework

Vied for space.

Anger, tears,

A silent comforter;

Secrets ever safe.

A limited view?

The kitchen table of my childhood

Saw more of life than any tree.
