Where do you go to find a recipe?

I have to say I am a bit like you! I find it much quicker to google a recipe as my computer is always switched on, and my book shelf is so full I canโ€™t easily access the recipes I want. Also most celebrity chefs have websites so I know I can find a recipe that I may have seen on TV. I do have one fave book though .. probably my oldest Delia Smith โ€˜bibleโ€™ that I always refer to for basic recipes like scones, pancakes and crumble! :-)

I have lots of cook books, and I like looking through them, but I must admit it's quicker just to google a recipe...for instance....my daughter's a veggie, so I googled xmas recipes for xmas day,

My favorite recipe go to is not a book but a website. www.allrecipes.com I highly recommend it for all cooks, whether beginner or chef. I enjoy cooking and am constantly looking for recipes my parents might eat that falls within their diet restrictions.

I have the BBC Good Food app on my phone so I can find a recipe and just keep it visible on my phone while I cook, making sure to keep the phone out of the way of any splashes etc!

Hi All
I look stuff up in my Good Housekeeping "bible" it tells you how to cook any basic ingredients eg fruit & veg and has sound basic recipes. However I am a bit of an invention test cook so flick through for ideas then just make something up!

Usually I would ask the people from the places that I am acquainted with to see if my ingredients and theirs corresponds and then mix and match then
check if your recipe matches, then I would try theirs to see how it compares to mine. what I am trying to say is be flexible see what works for you, there is no one size fits all. learn to listen to your dietician and your body.

Hi. I agree that looking on Google and Youtube is an excellent way to find recipes. I would like to Google search vegetarian recipes as I am on a diet at the moment after having eaten too much over the Christmas period. I am sure that I would find some nice vegetarian recipes online.
I find eating salads a bit boring sometimes. I find I have to jazz salads up with a salad dressing to make them tastier and I know that this can add quite a few calories to the salad.

To get the best recipes I usually go to Google and type in what I want to cook. You will then get a variety of recipes and you can usually choose what for you is the best one. So even if you have never cooked before you will be able to have a go. Also try the BBC good food guide. Happy Cooking!!

Many thanks for your tip. I will try and Google search vegetarian recipes as I am on a diet after having eaten too much over the Christmas but I still want to cook nice tasty meals. Sometimes I find eating salads a bit boring. No wonder they cal that "rabbit food!"

A good source of recipes is the BBC website. I have a copy of The Times Cook Book by Katie Stewart (who remembers her, I wonder) from 1976. It is brown with age and some pages bear evidence of egg and flour, but I would not part with it for the world. It is now out of print I think - even Amazon can't supply. It has the best chicken liver pate recipe and scone recipe I have ever found - though I have tweaked the pate one!

My pate tweak is to replace the brandy with Cointreau and orange. Delicious!

Yes. That one very comfortable, food stained, dog eared cook book! I have one too. It's a Betty Crocker cookbook I got as a wedding gift in 1975!!! And yes I still go to it for a newly tried recipe. Aren't they great!?

I agree. Even living in South Africa with access to stunning local recipe's I still go online and search Recipes BBC. I generally end up using something from Jamie Oliver ๐Ÿ˜‰
Response from Marley444 made on 15th Aug 2015 08:59:51
Love Jamie Oliver recipes ... one of my favourites is his Chicken Satay sticks with firey noodles! Love the fact that all his recipes are simple and don't require complicated ingredients. Love watching his programmes too ๐Ÿ™‚ Do you see them in South Africa? We visited Cape Town in January and I was totally blown away by the stunning food served everywhere ... even in the remotest parts like at the end of the Cape .. such fantastic presentation and so reasonable .. why can't we serve food like that in the UK!!? Would love to go back to SA ๐Ÿ˜‰

I am in the same boat as most of you. Loads of books, but go online and search All Recipes UK and BBC. I wondered why I do this and came to the conclusion that I use online because I can print them off. I usually copy them and paste into Word so that I can edit them. I try to edit them onto a 1 page of A4 paper.

I have used quite a few of the recipes on Silversurfers lately ... there is a great paella recipe which I have used a few times now, and a quick and easy dessert using brandy snap baskets filled with Greek yoghurt, lemon curd and passion fruit which is very impressive! There are some great soups too! And some very interesting salads ... not that I'm a foodie or anything!! Does anyone else get preoccupied with food??
