Baked French toast anyone? Decadent breakfasts are just made for lazy Sunday mornings, when there are thick newspapers to read, coffee to drink, and time to relax.
We round up some easy to make but incredibly tasty recipes for a truly indulgent breakfast.
Stuffed French Toast
French toast is a classic breakfast recipe, but to make it truly decadent you could try stuffing it with delicious treats. Think of it as a French toast sandwich.
Try French toast stuffed with banana and peanut butter, Nutella and strawberries, or even bacon.
Prepare your French toast ingredients first – be sure to cook bacon at this stage if you’re using it. We like this simple French toast recipe.
Soak your bread in the French toast batter, melt butter on a large pan, and add two slices of soaked bread. Cook until the underside is toasted, then flip over and top one slice of bread with your fillings. Put the other slice of bread on top (cooked side down) and weigh with a lid while cooking, then flip the sandwich over halfway through so that both ends are golden brown.
If you want to do a bit less cooking in the morning but still like the idea of a French Toast, then make some cinnamon baked French Toast from the Pioneer Woman Blog. The key is to prepare most of the ingredients in advance and allow the bread to soak through overnight, before cooking in the morning with your toppings.
Dust with some icing sugar or maple syrup as preferred, and enjoy.
American Style Pancakes
A stack of pancakes is a firm favourite on American brunch plates, and they make a great decadent Sunday breakfast treat.
Smaller and thicker than the pancakes we often cook in Britain, American style pancakes are light and fluffy, and go perfectly with fresh fruit.
Try this easy Blueberry Pancake recipe to whip up a simple but delicious brunch.
Drizzle your finished pancakes with maple syrup or butter, and serve with sliced banana and some pecan nuts. If you don’t like blueberries, try adding strawberries or raspberries, or leave out the fruit and serve with a side of bacon.

Breakfast Cake
Thought cake was an afternoon indulgence or birthday treat? Think again – it can make a perfect thing to enjoy at breakfast time with a cup of coffee.
The key is to make the cake moist and tender, and round out the flavours with fruit. Although there’s a little more preparation required than some other brunches, once the cake is in the oven you have time to spend relaxing and reading the papers, and you’ll be treated with a lovely smell in your home and a tasty breakfast that might last a few days.
