Best Ski Destinations In 2015

There’s nothing quite like the thrill of gliding down fresh white snow, enjoying breath-taking views, and then relaxing with a good meal in the evening. A ski resort could make fantastic holiday destinations for your new year.

Whether you want to take your grandchildren on a memorable holiday, enjoy a romantic getaway to the hills with your partner, or have some thrills on the slopes, we’ve something for you.

Take a look at some of the best destinations for a ski break in 2015.

Courchevel, France

Les Trois Vallées is the largest ski area in the world, with over 600km of pistes connected by lifts and slopes. One of the resorts, Courchevel, is particularly renowned for its varied terrain, excellent snow and lift system.

There are actually four resorts which make up Courchevel giving a range of price points. At the upper end is Courchevel 1850, an exclusive resort which attracts celebrities, dignitaries, and members of the royal family. If you head to resorts further down the slope at Courchevel Moriond, Courchevel Village, and Courchevel Le Praz, you’ll find more reasonably priced hotels so you can enjoy the snow and views without the price tag.

Another big draw for the area is the direct Eurostar service from London which runs during the ski season, as well as the free, reliable bus service linking the resort villages.

Alpbach, Austria

The most picturesque ski resort in our 2015 ski break list has to be Alpbach, a small town in the Austrian Tyrol which is perfect for beginner or intermediate skiers.

Alpbach has attracted skiers for decades with its quiet, well-maintained pistes, good snow, respected ski schools and stunning views. The slopes are now linked to nearby Auffach so there are plenty of accessible slopes to explore.

The buildings in this pretty village are all in the traditional Tirolean style and offer a good range of accommodation. The most famous hotel in town is the Hotel zur Post, which has a cosy bar and serves up traditional food.

Champoluc, Italy

For a laid back and family friendly ski holiday destination, head to Champoluc, part of the Monterosa Ski area in the Alps.

Champoluc is home to a British ski school which gives lessons to people from age four upwards, and has a nursery on site too. There are good beginner slopes here, but intermediate and advanced skiers will find themselves especially well catered for with long runs and exhilarating slopes. The lift system connects Champoluc to three valleys to the Monte Rosa ski area so there are plenty of pistes to explore.

The charming village is quiet but has chalets and hotels, family friendly restaurants, and relaxed bars, making it a great ski destination in 2015.

Zermatt, Switzerland

Zermatt is surrounded by jaw-dropping mountains, the most famous of which is the Matterhorn. The snowy peaks regularly draw skiers from around the world, even during the summer months.

The slopes are well serviced and the great range means that there’s a piste to suit any skill level. There are excellent lift services, trained ski teachers, good restaurants on the slopes, extraordinary views and extreme heights to enjoy.

Trains run from Geneva or Zurich as cars are not allowed in the romantic old village of Zermatt. There are numerous hotels, chalets and holiday homes with spas, excellent restaurants, shops, cafes and more on offer.

Vail, Colorado

If you want to go further afield for an extraordinary ski break in 2015, then look no further than Vail, Colorado.

Vail is one of the world’s largest ski resorts and the largest single resort in the U.S. It has a ski and snowboard school, plenty of runs and tracks, modern lifts and lots of events taking place.

Vail is home to accommodation that will suit a range of budgets, from luxury suites at the Ritz-Carlton Residences and Four Seasons Resort to private holiday villas in the village and affordable hotels. The town has great places to visit when you’re not on the slopes, too, with shops, restaurants, spas and bars, and even pedestrian friendly heated streets!
