Wildlife Artist of the Year .. Silver Artist Category
Philip Lawson Johnston of Woodstock Road, Oxford was named as the 2014 Silver Artist category winner at an awards ceremony held in London last night (June 2).
His ‘Ptarmigan Descent’ glass etched bottle was a unanimous favourite with the judging panel that was chaired by wildlife photographer and conservationist, Mark Carwardine.

The category, one of seven in this year’s Wildlife Artist of the Year competition run by the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation, was sponsored by Silversurfers.com.
“I was so amazed to win. The competition was very tough and it was a real privilege to share the gallery with so many wonderful artists and sculptors,” says Philip.
Philip received his £500 prize from wildlife artist and conservationist David Shepherd CBE and Foundation supporter, actress Pam St Clement.
Philip has been a hand-engraver of glass since 1971. He has achieved international recognition through his specially commissioned works around the world. He was granted a Royal Warrant to be Hand-Engraver of Glass to Her Majesty The Queen. However, he has never received any formal art training other than art classes at school, and so is entirely self-taught.
Philip says, “My intention is to create on glass designs that not only are pleasing to the eye and accurate in what they portray, but also reflect in some way the care and attention to detail of the Creator, as observed in the world around us.”
