Silver Surfers
This poignant poem is written by Marie Hindmarsh, who was born in London and has lived in New Zealand for the last 40 years … Marie was inspired to write this after she heard that senior net workers were know as Silver Surfers
Silver Surfers
I’m a silver surfer, not of the Ocean kind.
I daily surf the internet to see what I can find.
I chat to friends on Facebook, I like to have my say.
Making contact with an old friend can really make my day.
I’ve even found family members I’ve not seen for many years.
Sometimes it becomes quite moving, reducing me to tears.
An old friend from London Phones me to tell me this and that.
I tell her to get a laptop so we can have a longer chat.
At this she bursts out laughing & reminds me she’s getting older,
I tell her don’t let that put you off, us old folk have to be much bolder.
I Google for information, that I really need to find.
Like recipes and patterns of the knitting kind.
And then of course there’s Ebay I have to check that out.
I’ve bought many bargains from there, of which I have no doubt.
If I skype I can see who I’m talking to up on my laptop screen.
Who would have thought we could do that, it really is a dream.
I post, I poke, I shift things, it really is no fete.
If people talk a load of rubbish I simply hit delete.
Some people say it’s a waste of time, but I do not agree.
It helps to pass the time of day I live on my own you see.
I could sit here feeling sorry for myself, or worse even sad & bitter,
But instead I take myself on line to check out the news on twitter.
I may be getting older but the more info I can get,
Only proves I’m never too old to learn, and there’s life in this old girl yet.
