Are French Ski Holidays Suitable For All Ages?
With a short flight time and a wide choice of resorts and terrain, winter holidays to our nearest neighbour are difficult to beat. France has the broadest range of resorts in Europe, so there is something to suit everybody.
There’s no reason for anyone to be left at home either, as many resorts are specifically family-friendly with excellent snow schools, beginner areas and gentle terrain. Booking an all-inclusive Club Med Ski Holiday is a great option to ensure that guests of all ages are looked after all week.
Getting there
Making it out to the resort can be one of the most stressful parts of your week. Long transfers and flights can put everyone on edge, when all you want to do is relax. Flights to France take around one hour, so they generally cause minimal stress to the oldest and youngest in your group.
Alternatively, you can consider driving to the resort. This is a good option for nervous flyers, and eliminates long airport queues and transfers. Take the train straight to the resort for an effortless and comfortable carriage. The Eurostar snow train offers child prices for 4-11 year olds, and children under the age of four will travel for free.
The little ones
Club Med resorts welcome children of all ages. Facilities are geared towards specific age groups, including teens that have dedicated areas to socialise, take part in activities and relax.
For groups with young children, there are even babysitting services available at a small extra cost. Some resorts incorporate a snow garden, where children from the age of 4 can learn to ski in a fun and safe environment near the hotel. While you make the most of your holiday, the children will be entertained and provided with ski or snowboard lessons.
The eldest
Age is no barrier to hitting the slopes, it’s all about fitness and experience. For those who have skied in the past, getting out there again shouldn’t be an issue. Even elderly beginners shouldn’t feel excluded, as long as they are physically prepared for the exercise.
Most French resorts offer a free lift pass for the over 75s, which is a good incentive to get involved. Club Med resorts are usually close to the pistes and ski school meeting points, avoiding the strain of carrying equipment and walking too far in ski boots.
