Not ready for coach trips?

Car hire offers independence, adventure and a comfortable drive

This summer, why not get on the road and explore the beautiful sights, fascinating history and memorable experiences the UK has to offer, stopping wherever takes your fancy along the route.

Take the scenic route

We recently asked drivers about their favourite scenic routes around the UK, so if you’re in need of some inspiration for this year’s summer travels, we might have the answer.

It can be easy to forget the incredible landscapes and scenery we have right here in the UK in favour of more exotic destinations and famous landmarks. But those planning a UK break won’t be disappointed if their trip takes in one of the routes voted the most scenic in a recent Europcar survey.

According to our research, drivers’ three favourite scenic driving routes in the UK are The North Coast 500 in Scotland, the Kendal to Keswick route in the Lake District, and the ‘Cat and Fiddle’ Buxton to Macclesfield route in the Peak District. Stops along these routes include wonderful local pubs, dramatic caves, idyllic beaches and so much more.

Getting active

If you’re looking for a new place to explore the UK countryside on foot, we have compiled a list of some amazing hiking trails to get your started. With a range of options from 3 miles in Derbyshire to a nine day, 135 mile trail through stunning Welsh countryside from Knighton to Welshpool, there is something for all ages and abilities.

Opt for Derbyshire, and swing by Bakewell for a traditional pudding – or a cherry-topped tart, if you prefer – as well as explore the picturesque village and surrounding Peak District. Other countryside getaway options could take in the Lake District, Thornbury Castle in South Gloucestershire, or Brontë country in Yorkshire’s Haworth town and Moors.

Holiday with Europcar

Whether you’re heading abroad for guaranteed sun or taking your chances with the weather to explore the beauty of the British Isles, hiring a car from Europcar could help make your trip go more smoothly. With pick up locations at airports, ferry ports, train stations and convenient city centre locations, Europcar provides the right wheels to suit your needs.

From small hatchbacks for two people and a couple of suitcases, right up to eight-seaters with space for everything the whole family could need. There’s even the option to try an electric vehicle. And expert Europcar staff will be on hand to talk you through the features of the car; especially valuable if you’re renting an electric car for the first time.

One last thing – if you’re planning to take the children or grandchildren along, you might want to check out our suggestions for how to answer the inevitable “Are we there yet?” from the back seat.
