Should we have a second EU referendum?I was a voted to remain but the country voted by a majority to come out of the European Union so that is what we should do otherwise why hold the referendum in the first place.ViewDate:

World Health Day 2017: Let's talk about depressionI'm with you Adel. You wouldn't tell someone with a broken leg to just get up and walk. This is no different, it is just that it cannot be seen. Depression is a very lonely place.ViewDate:

Which activity do you find most restful?I find reading, listening to music, walking, day dreaming, being with animals, being in a natural environment and drinking coffee all relaxing. How can I choose the most restful????ViewDate:

Should smokers, drinkers, drug users and obese people be charged to see the doctor?Thank you for your comments. You miss my point. Without the NHS I couldn't afford the medication I need so therefore I wouldn't have be here. Some comments left on this forum have been totally unsympathetic.ViewDate:

Should smokers, drinkers, drug users and obese people be charged to see the doctor? There are a lot of unsympathetic people out there. I have type 2 diabetes diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, hiatus hernia and I had an ulcer. I have taken numerous tablets for 18 years. At last I have managed to lose nearly 5 st in weight and I might be able to come off some tablets including the ones for diabetes but that said the depression is still around and comes and goes. If you haven't been there don't judge. Thank goodness for the NHS. Without it I wouldn't be here.ViewDate:

Have you visited your GP in the last 5 years?Just a thought, but shouldn't all over 60's or is it 65's be getting flu jabs every year? In which case this probably doesn't affect most people on this site. No GPs shouldn't get paid just for having patients on their lists. Maybe some bright person could come up with an app to remind us to re register every 5 years. May be I should keep quiet as I am at the surgery every month for tablets and see my GP at least 2 times a year as I have quite a few health problems.ViewDate:

WASPII agree that pension age should be equal. I think the issue is that women retiring in the next couple of years haven't had enough time to adjust their pension plans because the introduction of this equalisation has been brought forward.ViewDate:

Should cannabis be legalised for medicinal reasons? On balance, no. I know someone who is in constant pain and has used cannabis in the past but gave up as her son was a cannabis user and he would steal hers. He is addicted and she dare not have it in the house.ViewDate:

Is it ever acceptable for a man to be unfaithful to his wife?No but then neither is a wife cheating on her husband acceptable. If you need to do that then there is a problem. Either sort it out or get out of that relationship.ViewDate:

Are you a Grandparent?I was 51 when my first grandchild was born. No I wasn't ready as he is my youngest daughter's child..she now has 3.... As my eldest daughter is now 41 had she had children I could have been a grandparent by the age of 36! I am glad she didn't though, she wouldn't have coped neither would I. My youngest daughter is only 24 now and her grandma would have been so proud of her and the way she copes with her children. Her grandma died when the oldest was one month old. A mixed blessing that year.ViewDate:

Need new friends and someone to talk toHi Kazz, I'm soon to be 58 (Easter Saturday). I have very few friends. It is surprising how many of us there are. I am lucky in so far as I have a partner, 3 children and 3 grandchildren (who all keep me busy), also I have 1 brother and 3 sisters and I work in an office (all men save for one of the joint owners who obviously is a lady. The owners are both younger than me i.e. not much older than my oldest daughter. My ex made sure I didn't get too close to other people and I got out of the habit of being friends with women of my own age. I felt more lonely in my marriage than the 4 years I spent just me and my youngest daughter. You have a wide range of interests. Are there any groups you could join? Unfortunately I am in the south but should you wish to pm me, I would be happy to talk. Good luck.ViewDate:

Should Prince Charles step aside and allow Prince William to become the next King?Being King is not a popularity contest, it is a matter of succession. He has made mistakes and personally I do not wish to see Camilla as Queen. Charles is already 66 and the Queen shows no sign of retiring (and nor should she) so Charles could be old by the time he succeeds. If we could chose I would go for Princess Anne any day. Strong minded, independent woman that she is.ViewDate:

What am I doing wrong?I sympathise with your position. Perhaps you could widen your horizons by volunteering, join a club of some sort. In other words try to find hobbies with like minded people. When you are not looking for it a relationship will come. Sometime the harder you look the less you see and the more it eludes you.ViewDate:

Should ear-piercing be banned for babies?I thank it should not be permitted for children under 16. I made my girls wait despite pleading with me. I told them they could decide for themselves once they were 16 and pay for the piercing themselves. My son also chose a piercing but I notice that these days it has gone.ViewDate:

Will you continue to use scented candles?Open the windows more. We were brought up with draughty single glazed windows, no heating save for an open fire in our main living room which, when the wind was blowing the wrong way had a tendency to smoke into the room and not up the chimney. We are all alive and well.ViewDate:

Just joined so I'm introducing myself.Hi Mandy, I joined last month. I have been in your situation but I was lucky to have my youngest daughter living at home with me but always missed her so much when she went to stay with her Dad. I immersed myself in work, may be you could do some voluntary work and just kept up with and relied heavily on family and friends. This didn't help with coming home to an empty house. Four years later I unexpectedly found that I had feelings for a co-worker as he did me. He later admitted that he had felt like that since the first time we met. We are still together 9 years later. Try to keep positive. I didn't think anyone would love me or could love me. Over 40, type 2 diabetic, high blood pressure and depression! He took on me, 3 kids and my array of animals and he managed to deal with a stroppy 14 year old even though he doesn't have children of his own and has never wanted them! He is now a granddad! You have taken the first step by joining silver surfers as you now have somewhere to chat. What are your interests? Could you join some local groups?ViewDate:
